payroll giving

Demand for Hackney Foodbank has increased by 53% since 2023.

In order to meet that overwhelming need, we’re launching a payroll giving scheme.

Funds raised will help provide more emergency food parcels and enable work with food bank visitors to address the wider effects and causes of poverty.

Please consider taking this powerful step to ensure no-one in Hackney goes hungry.

A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY

  • Donate through your salary before tax is deducted, so it costs you less to give more.

  • Hackney Foodbank won’t be charged for these monthly donations.

  • You can change your donation amount any time by informing your payroll department.

  • You and your colleagues can make a meaningful commitment towards a hunger-free Hackney through your monthly pay cheque.

  • Unlike Gift Aid, which only adds an additional 25%, charities can benefit from the generosity of supporters in the higher tax bracket.

ORGANISATIONS CAN SHOW EMPLOYEES THEY CARE ABOUT GIVING BACK

It’s a way to boost morale and employee engagement.

Payroll giving is an excellent addition to your corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, allowing employees to more easily engage in charity giving. It's easy to set up and run, with few costs.

Staff can change their donations when they want by talking to their internal payroll team.

National Recognition: the Quality Mark Scheme and National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards recognise your business’ commitment to giving back.

For Employers

Make deductions each time you run payroll: the donation will be taken from your employees' pay before tax but after National Insurance. Send the donations to your agency - they'll pass them on to Hackney Foodbank.

Employers have the option achieve a Bronze Award (at least 1% uptake), Silver Award (at least 5% uptake), Gold Award (at least 10% uptake), Platinum Award (at least 20% uptake) or Diamond Award (at least 30% uptake) by continually striving to increase donations through Payroll Giving Quality Award Mark. Just speak to your chosen Payroll Giving Agency.

simple steps for employees

  1. Ask your employer if they already have a Payroll Giving scheme in place.

  2. If they don’t have a scheme, suggest an HMRC approved agency, eg Charitable Giving, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) or Charities Trust.

  3. Ask your employer to sign up via their preferred HMRC approved Payroll Giving Agency. Some companies will match-fund monthly employee donations.

  4. Spread the word about the scheme across the company – you could share or post about www.hackneyfoodbank/payrollgiving

  5. Your donation is deducted from your monthly salary, and the tax-man adds at least 25%.

  6. Hackney Foodbank receives vital funds to help us in the fight against hunger and the wider causes of poverty.
