Give in Lent Challenge
FILL A BOX FOR PEOPLE IN CRISIS THIS LENT
Hackney Foodbank’s Give in Lent Calendar features 40 items to donate in 40 days from February 18th until April 2nd.
Households are being urged to support people in crisis this Lent by donating food and toiletries.
Hackney Foodbank has launched a Give in Lent Calendar Challenge – asking the public to donate one item per day for 40 days (the idea is to fill a box at home and bring it to the warehouse at the end of Lent).
If you prefer to donate online, you can order a Give in Lent bundle via Give Today - your items will be delivered to us!
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (this year that’s February 18th) and it ends on Thursday April 2nd. Among the items requested for the Give in Lent box are tinned meat, tinned fish, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, long-life juice and custard.
Demand for Hackney Foodbank has increased by 18% in the past year and we are currently supporting around 680 people a week. With food prices increasing and the cost-of-living rising, this is leaving many unable to afford even the basics like food and heating. The food bank urgently needs more donations if they’re to meet demand.
Donations should be dropped to Hackney Foodbank at The Wally Community Centre, Homerton Rd, London, E9 5QB open Monday to Friday 8.30am - 2pm. To download your version of the Give in Lent calendar, click here.
