Fundraiser to endure 13 miles of dire music

Hackney Foodbank runner Paul Morris

Spare a thought for Hackney Half runner Paul Morris who was so determined to raise funds for Hackney Foodbank he’s let his sponsors choose his playlist.

He said: “So far, they’ve chosen some pretty horrific songs – including the Cheeky Song, Baby Shark and Walking Walking by Bebefinn!  I guess it’s an incentive to run fast - the quicker I get round the fewer I’ll have to listen to!”

The 29-year-old, who works as a business consultant for Adobe, is a keen footballer and started running more during lockdown so he’s not too daunted by the distance. His longest training run so far has been 16km (almost 10 miles).   Adobe are long-standing supporters of the food bank.

Paul added: “Our office is based in Old Street – Hackney Foodbank is very near so it’s nice to be able to help.  We support the food bank with regular collections but it’s great to be able to help fundraise. Offering sponsors the chance to choose what music I’ll listen to on the way around seems to be working – most people are more than happy to donate.

“Some people have been kind and chosen nice songs – I know who my friends are!”

14 runners are supporting Hackney Foodbank in the Hackney Half, which takes place this Sunday (May 21st), including food bank volunteers Lucy Sillito and Jem Talbot and Food Distribution Centre Supervisor Johan Ekelund.  The charity is currently feeding around 650 people per week as the cost-of-living crisis worsens.
