Meet our newest caseworker.

Carole King-Burrowes, who has been one of our food distribution centre managers since April, is determined to help our visitors on to better situations and has just joined our casework team.

She said: “I trained to do welfare benefits years ago but wasn’t able to continue because a new government came in and scrapped the funding.  When I came to Hackney Foodbank and saw the casework team, I thought ‘that’s what I want to do.’

“Having face to face contact, speaking to someone and taking them from a position of not understanding what is available to them to helping them access it and be in a better position is life-changing for our visitors.”

Carole is undergoing training to get her up-to-date with benefits.

When she’s not working at the food bank, she’s a talented seamstress and enjoys upcycling old clothes into new.
