Why children need our help

No child should have to go hungry.

When families are struggling to afford the essentials, children can be among those who feel the impact most. Going without enough food can affect a child’s health, wellbeing and ability to concentrate at school.

Families coming to Hackney Foodbank are facing a range of challenges, from rising household costs and insecure work to problems with benefits and housing. For some, there simply isn’t enough money left to put food on the table.

Your donation does more than provide food

Emergency food can provide immediate relief, but it’s not the whole solution.

Alongside providing food, our caseworkers work with families to understand what’s causing their financial difficulties and help them access the benefits, income and services they’re entitled to.

In 2025, our caseworkers helped households increase their income by around £976,000. Around half of the people they worked with no longer needed to return to the food bank for emergency food.

Your donation helps us provide both immediate help and practical support to help families move on to better situations.

Why we need £50,000

This year, we expect to provide more than £125,000 worth of emergency food to children in Hackney. We also expect the cost of providing caseworker support to families attending Hackney Foodbank to be more than £50,000.

Every donation, whatever the amount, helps us make sure children have access to food when their families are facing hardship - while giving their parents the practical support they need to improve their situation.
