Can you sponsor a child’s lunch during the school holidays?
The holidays are a huge pressure point for families in poverty – many struggle with the extra cost of providing lunch and we regularly meet parents who skip meals so their children can eat.
During the school holidays we give supermarket vouchers to families experiencing hardship, so they can buy ingredients for lunches. £10 for the first child and £5 each for siblings.
With your help, Hackney Foodbank provides emergency food for around 275 children each week – they’re among the 800 weekly visitors to our food distribution centres. In the holidays we try to help more.
Among those supported by the scheme are Theresa, a single mum of two. She said: “Without this I don’t know what I would do. Lunch Club enables me to buy meat, bread, spread and tomatoes. It means I can cook hot meals for the children to have in the holidays.
“Before Lunch Club, the six-week school holidays were murder. I ended up borrowing money.”
Hackney Foodbank is trying to raise at least £3,000 to cover the cost of lunches.
Please help if you can. A donation of £60 will sponsor a child’s lunch throughout the summer holidays, £10 will sponsor lunch for a week.
