House sales to help fund food parcels

An independent estate agency in Clapton has pledged to donate to Hackney Foodbank for every property they sell.

Rooted, which opened their first bricks and mortar agency on Lower Clapton Road this autumn, will give £40 from every sale to the charity.

The business is run by brothers Max and Dean Ben-Yosef and their friend Scott Jacobs. Having grown up in East London, the trio were determined to have a positive impact on the community.

Dean said: “We grew up playing at Hackney Marshes and hanging out in Victoria Park. Having worked for one of the city’s biggest estate agencies, we’re determined to do things differently and that includes helping ensure no-one in the community goes hungry.

“We started Rooted because we saw a need for a more personal and approachable estate agency in East London. Having lived and worked here our entire lives, our goal is to make a very positive contribution to this amazing community we love so much!.”

Hackney Foodbank is currently supporting around 750 people per week as benefits and wages fail to keep up with the rising cost of living.  The charity has more than 200 volunteers and runs six food distribution centres and a mobile food bank.

Jenna Fansa, Head of Fundraising for the food bank, said: “We’re thankful to Rooted for choosing to support us with donations every time they sell a home. Our visitors struggle to afford the very basics and support like this will help to put food on the table and will help us to provide caseworker support to help people on to better situations.”
