Trick or Eat Halloween Trail is back!
Around 50 shops, cafes and homes are joining Hackney’s Trick or Eat trail this Halloween to show their support for Hackney Foodbank.
Families out trick or treating on October 31st are urged to visit participating businesses and homes on the trail map to drop in donations of non-perishable food and to collect sweet treats.
The trail has been run by the Local Buyers Club in partnership with Stoke Newington Business Association and Location Location estate agency for the past seven years.
Among the dozens of businesses taking part are Earlybird, Stoke Newington Bookshop, London Bike Studios, Know and Love, Array, Jarr Market, Prep and Acoustic Brasserie. They’ll be collecting between 4pm and 6pm. Households will be collecting until 8pm.
Organiser Basil Fansa, of the Local Buyers Club, said: “We’re thrilled so many businesses and households are taking part in Trick or Eat – it’s going to be a spooktacular night! When we launched Trick or Eat seven years ago, we wanted to create a fun trail, bolster supplies at the food bank and enable children to learn about the importance of helping people experiencing hardship. It has become a really lovely event and our thanks go to all those supporting this year.”
Heidi Early, Chair of Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “Local businesses always go all out for Halloween and people always give so generously. Since it first launched, Trick or Eat has collected more than 13 tonnes of food for local food banks. There are some fantastic window displays and lots of local traders will be getting in the spirit with fancy dress. If you’re looking for something wonderful to do this Halloween, come to Stokey!”
Hackney Foodbank is currently providing emergency food for around 750 people per week, a 20% increase on last year. As well as providing emergency food, the charity’s caseworkers help visitors address the root causes of poverty, supporting with access to benefits, grants and debt relief.
